Drinking water is our most important foodstuff and as such is subject to very strict control. Hence, the requirements of the DVGW (Deutscher Verein des Gas- und Wasserfaches e. V. - German Technical and Scientific Association for Gas and Water) with regard to the technical properties and hygienic safety of construction products for the repair and protection of potable water tanks are similarly exacting. This applies in particular to the products in direct contact with drinking water, such as the inner surface coatings. In terms of hygienic safety, the Type 1 classification of mineral coatings sets the highest requirements, as it excludes organic additives and admixtures from the composition of such products. MC-RIM PW 111 meets these requirements: The purely mineral mortar has been tested and certified as a Type 1 coating in accordance with DVGW Codes of Practice W 347 and W 300-5 (A). It is designed for lining supports, wall and ceiling surfaces in potable water tanks, water treatment plants and for concrete components in potable water protection zones and can be applied by hand or by wet spraying.

MC’s new Type 1 PW mortar exceeds specified requirements

MC-RIM PW 111 is impermeable to water and chlorides and outperforms rather than merely meeting the strict DVGW requirements. Despite the strict compositional restrictions, the new Type 1 potable water mortar exhibits a particularly low level of total porosity of around 7.4 % after just 28 days, whereas the limit set by the DVGW is 12 % at a mortar age of max. 90 days. The low porosity and the high compressive strength inherent in the coating product means it offers a greater degree of resistance to hydrolysis. The dense structure in combination with a maximum grain size of just 1.2 mm enables the achievement of smooth surfaces and durable coatings in layer thicknesses of up to 15 mm. And such coatings can be applied in a single pass, thus not only saving time but also cutting cost.

Additionally, MC-RIM PW 111 is classified as an R4 mortar according to EN 1504-3 and can therefore be used for the repair of both structural and non-structural concrete components.
